Frequently Asked Questions
#fundLAUTECH is an initiative geared to stimulate public participation and interest towards solving the present challenges faced by LAUTECH. LAUTECH has been closed for over 8 months due to non-payment of salaries of the staff by the two owner state governments. The outstanding wage bill is about N7b.
As a result of the closure, 26,360 undergraduates, 2,000 part-time students, 1,561 post-graduate students and 2,601 professional post-graduate students totaling 32,522 students are currently stranded!
A student who started in 100L in 2015 is yet to complete that particular session while students in other universities are already in 300L. So many thousands can't access their transcripts consequently missing out on opportunities such as scholarships. Several jobs are on the line because of inability of the University to issue academic references. The last time LAUTECH mobilized students for NYSC was in 2015.
Consequently, #fundLAUTECH is geared towards being a global movement which seeks to call the attention of all alumni in Nigeria and the diaspora towards the plight of the institution.
We are aware that there have been several initiatives geared towards resolving this problem. #fundLAUTECH is an idea that we believe will offer short-term, stop gap interventionist solution while exploring long-term and permanent options. We do not pretend to have all the answers and we are open to suggestions.
#fundLAUTECH will use the crowd funding approach to solicit for funds primarily from alumni members and secondarily from friends of LAUTECH. It will be transparent and very open- with updates on donations given real time and periodically on the site. Names of donors will also be on the site except they wish to remain anonymous. The concept is about little drops making a mighty ocean.
#fundLAUTECH will be managed by a consortium of alumni members including the President of the Alumni Association or his nominee which will be superintended by a Board which will comprise of eminent citizens in the society.
It will be primarily to pay salaries so the school can open. That is the immediate consideration. The long term strategy after the issue of outstanding salaries is resolved is that it will be used for promoting developmental projects in LAUTECH as approved by the Board.
We welcome your feedback and suggestions.
